Vanaja's Fine Art

Artist's Profile

Vanaja is a Toronto artist and most of her work is a visual narrative inspired by her extensive travels. All this is reflected in her paintings in the wide array of subject matter, created in her studio from her own photographs capturing those moments. She also enjoys painting plein-air. Recently she has been driven to paint abstracts, fascinated by the way the painting evolves, sometimes with a mind of its own!

She is a member of and participates in the activities and shows of the following artists organizations:

- The Art Guild of Scarborough (on the Executive Board as Exhibition Chairperson)

- East Central Ontario Art Association (ECOAA)

- Don Valley Arts Club (DVAC)

Her paintings have been exhibited and sold in Art Square Gallery & Cafe (July 2017), a three-artist show (CedarRidge 2007), in Bayview Art Tour 2017 where she exhibited her paintings in her own home, and in several juried shows regularly. She has also undertaken several commissions for portraits, landscapes, and abstracts.

Vanaja has attended classes in portraiture at the Ontario College of Arts and Design and has painted landscapes and still life under the instruction of Douglas Purdon and Jay Dampf. She has attended several workshops, including ones at the Haliburton School of the Arts and Loyalist College, and with well-known artists such as Sam Paonessa, Margaret Roseman, Ken McFarlane, John Leonard, and painted plein-air in France with Pauline Holancin and Jake Mol.

Vanaja devotes most of her time to her two passions – painting, and the study of astrology/cards - creativity & science. The right side of the brain meeting the left side of the brain!
